My friend’s 5-speed V6 Ford Ranger is one of the easiest cars to drive manual I’ve ever been in. It’s ridiculous. Whereas in my Civic I have to PERFECTLY modulate my clutch and gas starting out and going 1-2 in order to not jerk the car, the Ranger lets me pretty much do whatever I feel like with my feet and you can’t even feel it. It’s glorious. No idea why that’s the case; other small cars I’ve driven with manuals (base model 08 Ford Focus hatch) weren’t near as touchy as my Civic, either.

This is how I feel when going from my WRX to VAG products

1: Ranger is stupid easy to drive.
2: That civic is messed up.

In the 2.5l Golf especially, 1st gear just seems too tall and too close to 2nd. Takes some getting used to. Clutch out veeeery gently and then almost immediatly into 2nd. Alternatively, redline, dump clutch, and shift directly to third.

Rangers are great, plucky trucks, more so with a stick. I actually drove one yesterday to show a new young employee how to drove stick. He picked it up easily, helped by the ease-of-use and good clutch feel. Today we’re practicing in an older Honda Fit, which also has a decent stick feel, and more in his comfort zone for size.

Agreed. Rangers, and their Mazda brethren, are ridiculously easy to shift and their clutches last FOREVER. Just don’t try to shift quickly. Long throws are not your friend.
Switching to the grabby clutch in the WRX has been, let’s say, challenging. More than once have I smelled clutch after a spirited getaway from a light. :/

You can get our Wrangler moving just by easing off the clutch with no throttle input at all... in second gear.

My DX almost drove itself. It had the easiest, smoothest clutch I’ve owned. Not sure what’s wrong with yours.

Weird. I’ve had two clutches in mine and they’re both the same.

I dunno. I’ve had two clutches in it, so I dunno what else it could be.

My Tacoma has a clutch that engages close to the top. It’s very difficult to drive if you’re not used to it. The throw is pretty short for how long the shifter is though.

Mines really messed up, even with several different clutches. I think it’s the Transmissiion as a whole.
